New Delhi: The militants managed to give the security forces a slip after a brief exchange of fire in Haripora village of Imamsahib area in South Kashmir’s Shopian district last evening.


Acting on specific information about the presence of militants in the area, a joint team of the police, army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) last evening, said officials.


The militants, who were hiding in the area, fired upon the joint team of security forces as they approached the suspected spot.

The security forces retaliated to the same, which triggered a gunfight.


After the initial exchange of fire, no contact was established with the militants till this morning.


The security forces tightened the cordon after the initial exchange of fire and a fresh search operation was started this morning.


However, no contact with the militants or proof of their presence in the cordoned off area was found.

The security forces have called off the operation on not finding any clue regarding the presence of militants in the area.


This comes as Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the Centre has on several occasions vowed to eliminate terrorism from the root.
