New Delhi: Police arrested a militant associate of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday.


The arrested person, identified as Zubair Ahmad Dar, resident of Arigam Pulwama, was working as an associate of militant outfit LeT and was tasked to carry out attacks on security forces and non-local laborers in the area, police said.


According to police, joint forces of Pulwama Police, Army 44 RR and 183 BN CRPF arrested the militant associate of LeT outfit during a surprise check at Khamri Chowk in the district.    


One hand grenade has been recovered from his possession and a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Pulwama police station. Further investigation on the matter has been initiated, police added.


Earlier in the day, the army foiled an infiltration bid and gunned down a militant in an encounter along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, PTI reported.


"At about 1000 hours today, alert soldiers of the army observed suspicious movement of some individuals along the Line of Control in the Poonch sector (J-K), wherein they were trying to infiltrate across the Line of Control into the Indian side," a defence spokesman said.


The soldiers challenged the infiltrators, who opened fire on them. In an ensuing fire fight, one terrorist was killed. His body has been recovered, along with two AK-47 rifles, a pistol and war-like stores, the spokesperson said.


Earlier this week, the Jammu police claimed to have busted a terror module that was being coordinated from Europe and arrested two of its members involved in ferrying weapons and explosives dropped by drones coming from Pakistan, according to reports.


The two arrested have been identified as Chander Bose of Doda and Shamsher Singh of Camp Gole Gujral, Jammu.


Four pistols, eight magazines and 47 rounds were recovered from their possession, police said.


“During interrogation, Bose revealed that he was working at the behest of Shamsher Singh. During the questioning of the two, it was learnt that the coordinator of the terror module is based in Europe. Both (Bose and Shamsher Singh) were in touch with an overground worker (OGW), namely Balvinder of Jammu, who is now settled in Europe. The accused and the OGW are working for a banned terrorist organisation,” news agency PTI quoted Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Mukesh Singh as saying.
