New Delhi: A gunbattle broke out between militants and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district on Wednesday.


According to a police official, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Shopian's Heripora village after receiving information about the presence of militants there, news agency PTI reported.

The search operation turned into an encounter, the official stated.






On its Twitter handle, Kashmir police had earlier issued a correction pertaining to the location where the encounter broke out.






There are no reports of any casualties so far as the security operation in Shopian's Heripora village is underway. More details about the same are awaited.


Notably, two terrorists belonging to different proscribed organisations were killed in two separate encounters with security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, news agency ANI reported.


The joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police. Multiple joint mobile vehicle check posts were placed in the general area of Awantipura in Pulwama based on the specific inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area.
