New Delhi: Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pande on Saturday reached the forward areas in Jammu division and interacted with the deployed forces to review their preparedness, reported news agency IANS. 


Defence spokesman Lt Colonel Devender Anand said that the chief of army staff (COAS) visited forward areas in Rajouri and Poonch districts.


Northern command said in a twitter statement: "General Manoj Pande, COAS visited the forward areas of Poonch and Rajouri Sectors and reviewed the operational preparedness along Line of Control. COAS also interacted with all ranks & exhorted them to keep working with the same zeal and enthusiasm".






On Friday, a civilian who had sustained injuries during an encounter between terrorists and security forces at Redwani area in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district on Friday has succumbed, officials said, the news agency reported. 


As per the report, the police earlier said that one army soldier and a civilian were injured in the encounter at Kulgam that started after a joint team of police and security forces got an input about the presence of terrorists in that area.


"A civilian Manzoor Lone succumbed to his injuries. Injured Army Jawan Kiran Singh of 1RR is hospitalised at 92 base hospital, Srinagar. Search operation concluded," the police said.
