New Delhi: Two militants were killed in separate encounters with security forces in Kulgam and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, police said. According to a report by news agency PTI, among the two killed, one belonged to the proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen.


According to a police source, a search operation was launched acting on a tip-off regarding a terrorist hiding in a village in Khandipora area of Kulgam district.


During the operation, as the security forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon them, leading to retaliatory firing.


The terrorist identified as Rasiq Ahmed Ganie, belonging to terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen and a resident of Shouch Kulgam, was killed in the ensuing encounter, police said.


Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition, including a .303 Rifle along with 23 rounds, a pistol and 31 rounds, a hand grenade among other materials were recovered from the site of encounter.


All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further probe, a spokesman of the security forces said.


A soldier was also injured in the encounter. He was taken to the Army's 92 base hospital where his condition is said to be stable, an official said.


As per police records, the killed terrorist was involved in several terror crimes, including attacks on security forces and civilian atrocities, the police spokesman said.


Meanwhile, in another encounter in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, a terrorist was killed later in the day.


The gun fight broke out in Drabgam area of the district, the police spokesman said, adding that the operation was underway.
