New Delhi: A Rajasthan truck driver and a jawan were killed by terrorists in Shopian and Kupwara districts of Jammu and Kashmir respectively, in separate incidents, on Monday.


Two unknown terrorists including one from Pakistan attacked and killed a truck driver in Shopian district.  An apple orchard owner was also attacked and beaten up in Shirmal, agencies reported.

In the preliminary investigation, ut came to the fore that the truck was from Rajasthan which had come to carry fruits from Kashmir. It was already laden with fruits when the incident took place.

“Two desperate terrorists targeted a Rajasthan registered truck and its driver Sharief Khan, who was shot dead by them,” news agency ANI quoted sources in Jammu and Kashmir police.

"An orchard owner was beaten up at Shirmal. The truck was loaded with apples when the driver was attacked," added the sources.

Police said an operation has been launched to nab the terrorists.

"An operation has been launched in the area to trace the terrorists," the police official said.

Meanwhile in Kupwara’s Naugam sector, a jawan was killed in a land mine explosion by terrorists. This incident took place when after a spell of 72 days of restrictions, mobile post-paid services were restored on Monday.

On Monday, local police along with other security forces also arrested two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists from Ganderbal.

AK-47 rifles and ammunition were recovered from them.

Jammu and Kashmir police sources said that they had been looking for these terrorists since the last week of September after getting an input that they were hiding in Kashmir.
