New Delhi: Former Director of INX Media, Indrani Mukerjea has sought to be become an approver in alleged corruption charges against her in INX Media case. In a recent letter written by Indrani to Patiala House Court, she has sought a grant of pardon as an accused.
The court has asked her to appear before it via videoconferencing as she is currently facing murder charge for allegedly murdering her own daughter Sheena Bora, for which she is currently under trial in Byculla jail in Mumbai.
The court will now turn to investigatve agency CBI, which will determine if Indrani should be let go of her charges by turning her into a approver or if she is doing so under fear.
In a statement given before magistrate under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, Indrani had earlier said that co-accused Karti Chidambaram had demanded $1 million from her and her husband, co-accused, Peter Mukerjea, who co-founded INX Media with her.
The CBI in its FIR claimed that Karti, the then promoter of Chess Management Services Limited, entered into a criminal conspiracy to get the issues resolved “by influencing the public servants of the FIPB (Foreign Investment Promotion Board) unit of the Ministry of Finance by virtue of his relationship with the then Finance Minister” (P Chidambaram).
