Jammu:  After five months of its suspension, internet services in all government-run hospitals and SMS to all mobile phones will be restored from December 31 midnight in the Kashmir Valley. Short Message Service (SMS) will be resumed in Kashmir from Tuesday midnight, Jammu and Kashmir Principal Secretary Rohit Kansal informed here on Tuesday.


Reports say broadband services will also resume in government schools and hospitals from Tuesday midnight.

On December 10, some short message service (SMS) were enabled on mobile phones in order to facilitate students, scholarship applicants, traders and others.

It has now been decided to fully restore the service throughout Kashmir from midnight of December 31, Kansal said.

Since Article 370 was revoked, a communication blockade was imposed all across J&K. Landlines were the first to be restored followed by the opening up of the post-paid mobile phone services.

While broadband internet has been restored in Jammu, it still remains suspended in Kashmir. Mobile internet service continues to remain blocked both in Jammu and Srinagar. The service was restored last week in Kargil area of the newly formed Union Territory of Ladakh, reported IANS.
