Intelligence Bureau Chief Tapan Deka, NHRC Secretary General Bharat Lal Get One Year Extension

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension in service of Deka as the Director, Intelligence Bureau, for a period of one year beyond June 30, 2024, as per the government order.

Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief Tapan Kumar Deka was on Monday given a one-year extension till June 2025 and Bharat Lal was given an extension as secretary general of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), according to a Personnel Ministry order. 

Tapan Deka is a 1988-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension in service of Deka as the Director, Intelligence Bureau, for a period of one year beyond June 30, 2024, as per the government order.

Meanwhile, veteran bureaucrat Bharat Lal was given one-year extension as secretary general of the NHRC. Lal, a 1988 batch (retired) Indian Forest Service (IFoS) officer of the Gujarat cadre, was in June last year appointed to the post. 

Lal was then working as the director general, National Centre for Good Governance. "The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension in the tenure of Lal as secretary general, NHRC in the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India on contract basis for a period of one year beyond 30.06.2024," the order said.
