'Inebriated' Man Makes Fake Bomb Call To Google Office In Pune, Arrested In Hyderabad

"The office, located on the 11th floor of a multi-storey commercial building in Pune's Mundhwa area, received a call on Sunday night that a bomb was kept in office premises," said a police official.

Tech giant Google's office in Maharashtra's Pune city received a fake bomb threat. The caller said that a bomb has been kept within the office premises after which Pune Police, Bomb detection and disposal squad reached the office and carried out an extensive search of the premises, reported news agency PTI.

The man who has been accused of making the call in an inebriated state has been traced to Hyderabad and has been arrested, a police official said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Vikrant Deshmukh said, "The office, located on the 11th floor of a multi-storey commercial building in Pune's Mundhwa area, received a call late Sunday night that a bomb was kept in the office premises." 

"The call later turned out to be a hoax. The caller has been traced to Hyderabad and apprehended. He allegedly made the call in an inebriated condition," he added, as per PTI.

Further investigation is on into the incident, said Dy Commissioner Deshmukh.

Previously, an Indian Air Force sergeant was arrested in January for allegedly making a hoax bomb call to delay the departure of the Mumbai Rajdhani Express from New Delhi Railway Station, police said. The PCR command room informed the police regarding the call at 4.48 pm on Saturday, they said, adding that the train was scheduled to leave for Mumbai at 4.55 pm.

According to PTI, no explosive was found during a search carried out by the Bomb Disposal Squad of the railways and the Railway Protection Force.

"The mobile number was tracked and it was found that Sunil Sangwan (35), a sergeant in the Indian Air Force (IAF), made the call," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) Hareesh HP said, PTI quoted. According to police, Sangwan was scheduled to board the train to go to his place of posting at Air Force Station in Santacruz, Mumbai. He got late and allegedly made the call to delay the departure of the train from Delhi.

"The caller was traced from coach B-9 seat number-1. His identity was established through his Indian Air Force ID card. The mobile handset which he used to make the PCR call has also been recovered," the DCP said.
