Indore: Madhya Pradesh BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya, the son of senior party leader Kailash Vijayvargiya, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a municipal corporation officer with a cricket bat during an argument over a demolition drive in Ganji compound area. A local court rejected Akash Vijayvargiya's bail plea and he was sent to jail in the evening.


A case was registered against Vijayvargiya and nine others after the video of the incident went viral on social media.

The corporation's team had come to demolish a dilapidated house at Ganji Compound of Indore.


Here Vijayvargiya got into a dispute with the officer who had come for an anti-encroachment drive in Indore. The BJP MLA who was accompanied by a large number of supporters then chased and attacked the corporation employee with a cricket bat even as media surrounded him with cameras and recorded the whole incident.

Supporters of the MLA also attacked the officer and abused him while police personnel present at the spot tried to bring the situation under control.

The video of the incident where Akash Vijayvargiya is beating officers is being widely shared on social media sites. Here police officers are also seen trying to control the MLA.

After the incident, Akash, who represents Indore-3 Assembly Segment, went to MG Road Police Station along with his supporters, where local BJP leaders joined them. Meanwhile, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) employees held a demonstration by stopping their work.

Condemning the incident, state Congress spokesperson Neelabh Shukla said, "The lawmaker himself has broken the law. The incident has exposed the real face of the BJP. In a way, the incident has exposed the fissures within the BJP, as the IMC is represented by a BJP mayor," he said.
