Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge paid tribute to the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, on Saturday. Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and party chairman Kharge visited her memorial, Shakti Sthal, to pay floral tributes. Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot and Congress leader Bhupinder Hooda also paid their respects.






On the occasion of the former Prime Minister's birthday anniversary, Rahul Gandhi, heading the Bharat Jodo Yarta also offered flowers to her during the march.












PM Modi tweeted: “Tributes to our former PM Mrs. Indira Gandhi Ji on her birth anniversary.”






Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also paid tributes to the former PM. He tweeted: "Regards to the former Prime Minister of the country Mrs. Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary."






Indira Gandhi was born on November 19, 1917, in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. She was India's first and only woman prime minister. She was Jawaharlal Nehru's (India's first Prime Minister) daughter. Her mother, Kamala Nehru, was a member of the Indian National Congress and a freedom fighter.


In 1966, Indira Gandhi was elected to serve as India's third prime minister. Under her, India helped East Pakistan win the Liberation War against West Pakistan in 1971, leading to the establishment of Bangladesh.
