IndiGo has grounded its VT-IMG aircraft after it suffered a tail strike during landing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Sunda, June 11, reported ANI citing the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). As per the information, the IndiGo A321-252NX (Neo) aircraft VT-IMG while operating flight 6E-6183, Kolkata - Delhi was involved in a tail strike while landing at Delhi. DGCA was quoted as saying by ANI that the flight was uneventful till the approach to land at Delhi.
"During approach on runway 27, the crew felt that they floated longer than normal and initiated a go-around. During the go-around manoeuvre, probably the bottom of the tail portion of the aircraft touched the runway surface and sustained damages," the statement added.
It further said, "The operating crew have been off-rostered pending investigation," reported ANI.
In a statement, as per ANI, the airline said, the IndiGo Kolkata-Delhi flight which had experienced a tail strike during landing in Delhi on 11th June was declared grounded for necessary assessment and repairs. The incident is under investigation by relevant authorities.
Earlier, an IndiGo Airlines flight from Amritsar to Ahmedabad strayed into Pakistan near Lahore due to bad weather and went up to Gujranwala before heading back to Indian airspace without any mishap, according to a media report on Sunday.
An IndiGo Delhi-Chennai flight (6E-2789) safely returned to Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport within an hour of take-off on Saturday night following a snag in the engine. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said that the flight made a safe emergency landing with over 230 people onboard, reported ANI. The incident is another among the many where the flights have faced some kind of technical glitch mid-air resulting in emergency landings.
On Saturday, Air India's flight AI180 from San Francisco to Mumbai was canceled owing to an unanticipated technical issue today. Affected passengers have been offered alternate flights or a full refund for the cancelled journey, according to a spokesperson, news agency ANI reported.
