A Kolkata-bound IndiGo flight was cancelled on Thursday when the plane skid off the runway during takeoff and got trapped in the muddy outfield. An airport employee confirmed that IndiGo aircraft 6E757 was operating on the Jorhat-Kolkata route, news agency PTI reported.

According to the official, the flight operating on the Jorhat-Kolkata route was delayed for many hours in Jorhat due to a technical fault and was eventually cancelled.

"No passengers suffered injuries in the incident & a team constituted to probe the incident. During the initial inspection of the aircraft no abnormalities were observed," IndiGo Airlines was quoted by ANI on its official Twitter handle.

A local journalist spread the word after posting a picture on Twitter of an IndiGo plane that had reportedly gone off the runway and become stranded in the outfield, PTI reported.

"Guwahati Kolkata @indigo flight 6F 757 (6E757) slips from runway and stuck in muddy field in Jorhat airport in Assam. The flight was scheduled to depart at 2.20 pm but the flight delayed after the incident," he tweeted.

“Sir, we're concerned to hear this and raising this right away with the concerned team. Please share the PNR via DM for the same. We hope you're well and comfortably travelled to your destination," IndiGo said in response.

According to an AAI spokesperson, the flight was cancelled at 8:15 p.m. due to a technical issue with the aircraft.

“There were 98 passengers on board. All passengers deboarded and are safe,” he added.
