Srinagar: In a shocking incident, an Indian soldier belonging to Territorial Army was shot dead by terrorists in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday. As per reports, the solider had gone home on a holiday when he was attacked. As per the police, unknown men with weapons entered the Sangura village residence of the soldier Manzoor Ahmed Baig and shot him dead.
Baig was unarmed at the time of attack:
Severely injured Baig was rushed to the district hospital, where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. He was posted at Shopian district and was associated with 34th Battalion of Rashtriya Rifles. In an official statement, the Army said that he Baig was on a 12-day leave from work and therefore was unarmed.
Search operation underway to nab terrorists:
Soon after the incident came to light, a search operation was launched in the area to nab the terrorists. Baig has left a wife and 3 kids behind.
Even in April, a similar incident shook Jammu and Kashmir when terrorists gunned down soldier named Mohammad Rafi Yatu in his own residence, while he was on a holiday. Such an incident also took place last year on Eid when soldier named Aurangzeb was abducted and killed. Aurangzeb’s killers where nabbed and gunned down by Army on May 18.
2 SPOs go missing in Jammu and Kashmir:
Police Thursday initiated investigations after two special police officers (SPOs) failed to report back at district police lines in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, a spokesman said. Although the spokesman did not elaborate, there have been several instances in the past where security personnel, including SPOs, have joined terror groups.
"Two SPOs have not reported back at police lines in Pulwama. Police have launched investigation into the matter, "the spokesman said.
