CPRO Central Railway, Sunil Udasi, was quoted as saying that railway property worth Rs 62 lakh approximately were stolen between April to September 2018. 79,350 hand towel, 27,545 bedsheets, 21,050, pillow covers, 2,150 pillows, and 2,065 blankets were among the stolen property.
Besides linen and pillows, washroom fittings and other equipment are a significant loss too to the railways. The Indian Railways has incurred a loss of around Rs 4,000 crore over the last three fiscals including such thefts on trains, as per the report.
In earlier reports, the incident of stealing headphones and damaging LCD screens by the passengers of Tejas Express surfaced. This reflected gross misuse of public services by people on the country's first high-speed semi-luxurious train which made its maiden journey from Goa to Mumbai last year.
