The Indian Navy on Friday unveiled the new design of Admirals' epaulettes that the officers will wear. The epaulettes draw inspiration from Rajmudra of Chhatrapati Shivaji, the Indian Navy said in a post on X. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the new design of epaulettes on December 4 on the occasion of Navy Day.   


"As we usher in the new year #2024, #IndianNavy proudly unveils the new Design of Admirals' Epaulettes. Announced by @PMOIndia during #NavyDay2023 at Sindhudurg - the 🛑 in the new Design, drawn from the Naval Ensign & inspired from Rajmudra of #ChhatrapatiShivajiMaharaj, is a true reflection of our rich maritime heritage. Adoption of the new design reaffirms our commitment to the two pillars of #PanchPran' - 'Virasat Par Garv' & 'Ghulami ki Mansikta se Mukti ', the Indian Navy said in a post on X.






During Navy Day celebrations, PM Modi expressed pride in India's heritage and announced the renaming of ranks in the Indian Navy to align with Indian culture. He also revealed that the epaulettes worn by Naval officers would now bear the symbol of Shivaji Maharaj's army.


PM Modi stated, "With pride in our heritage, I am proud to announce that the ranks in the Indian Navy would be renamed according to Indian culture."


The Prime Minister lauded the Navy's progressive step in appointing the country's first woman commanding officer on a naval ship. He expressed his happiness at the convergence of the Naval flag with the heritage of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. "Inspired by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the nation is moving forward, leaving the mentality of dependence behind," said PM Modi.


The 'Navy Day 2023' celebrations included operational demonstrations by Indian Navy ships, submarines, aircraft, and special forces at Tarkarli beach, showcasing multi-domain operations undertaken by the Indian Navy.
