NEW DELHI: The Indian Army on Wednesday issued a stern warning to the Pakistan forces over its intense and unprovoked ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, saying any further misadventure by them will be responded in a befitting manner and will have dire consequences.
Post our warning to the Pakistan Army not to target civilian areas, the overall situation along the Line of Control remains relatively calm, the Army said in a press statement.
"In the last 24 hours, the Pakistan Army resorted to intense and unprovoked firing with heavy caliber weapons in selected areas of Krishna Ghati and Sunderbani, targeting Indian posts and civilian areas with Mortar bombs and heavy Arty Guns," it said, adding that the Army retaliated strongly and effectively and there have been no casualties on the Indian side.
"We would reiterate that as a professional Army we are committed to avoid civil casualties, especially along the Line of Control. All actions taken by our defence forces are targeted towards counter terrorism and terrorist infrastructure, away from civilian areas, to avoid civilian casualties."
The Army said it is maintaining strict vigil along the Line of Control and the International Border and any further provocation or misadventure by Pakistan will be responded in a befitting manner with dire consequences.
There has been a spurt in ceasefire violations by Pakistan after India's preemptive air strike on a Jaish-e-Mohammad terror camp in Balakot on February 26 following the February 14 suicide bombing in Pulwama in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed.
According to PTI, four civilians, including three members of a family, were killed and several others injured in over 60 incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch last week.
