'Beauty Of Our Army': 100-Foot-High National Flag Unfurled In J&K's Doda. WATCH

Indian National Flag: This is the second Army high-mast flag flown in the Chenab valley, which was once a major terrorist hotspot before it was cleared out completely over a decade ago.

A 100-foot-tall national flag that was installed in a stadium in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir was dedicated by the Army on Thursday as a tribute to the numerous soldiers who gave their lives for the country. This is the second Army high-mast flag flown in the Chenab valley, which was once a major terrorist hotspot before it was cleared out completely over a decade ago.

In July of last year, a flag with a height of 100 feet was put up in Kishtwar.

Along with Rashtriya Rifles Sector 9 Commander Brigadier Samir K Palande, Doda deputy commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan, and senior superintendent of Police Abdul Qayoom, Major General Ajay Kumar, the General Officer Commanding of the Army's Delta Force, unfurled the flag.

A 100-foot-tall national flag was put up in the nearby town of Kishtwar in July of last year.

Maj Gen. Kumar paid tribute to the surviving relatives of soldiers who had served their country and felicitated members of civil society for their significant contributions to nation-building.

The GOC stated, "The tallest flag is a tribute to the countless soldiers of Chenab valley region who have made the ultimate sacrifice while safeguarding the unity and integrity of the nation," quoted PTI.

He said that the Army and everyone else in the hilly district were proud of the 100-foot-tall national flag, which was the first of its kind in Doda.

Maj Gen. Kumar stated, "The national flag, which can be seen from a long distance, will make every citizen feel pride for the country."

The flag, which is situated in the midst of Doda's picturesque and azure hills, adds to the location's appeal.

"The feeling of the iconic national flag which is standing tall and beautiful cannot be expressed in words but surely this is making every citizen of India swelling with pride. This will surely go a long way in inculcating the sense of belonging for the country among the residents of Doda, especially the younger generation," Mahajan added.

The Army was thanked by the locals, particularly students and "Veer Naris," or war widows, who had gathered in large numbers to witness the event.

"By inviting us to this event, the Army has made us feel proud of the achievements of my martyred husband. This is the beauty of our Army that they never forget the sacrifices of the soldiers and their families," said Chinta Devi, wife of the most decorated soldier in the history of the Indian Army Naib Subedar Chunni Lal.

On June 24, 2007, Naib Subedar Lal, who was honored posthumously with the Ashok Chakra, Vir Chakra, and Sena Medal, gave his life fighting a group of terrorists who were trying to sneak through the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kupwara district of north Kashmir.

Doda student Simran Sharma, 14, said she was fortunate to be a part of this historic event.

“I am also grateful to the Army for letting me perform on this historic occasion. This proud feeling will remain with me for the rest of my life," the girl, who was part of the troupe which performed at the event, said.

Tahir Farooq, a student at the Government Degree College in Doda, said that the installation of the jumbo flag makes him proud because it brings back memories of a time when there were no national flags anywhere because of terrorism.
