New Delhi: The number of coronavirus cases in India surpassed the 4 lakh mark after India witnessed the highest single-day surge of 15,413 cases. According to the Health ministry, the active cases in India stands at 1,69,451 are active cases, while 2,27,755 patients have already been discharged. With 306 deaths, the toll now stands at 13,254.


The total infected cases in India have reached 4,10,461 with a recovery rate of 55.5% while the mortality rate is at 3.4%.

Worst Affected States

While Maharashtra remains the worst affected with more than 3000 new cases, for the second consecutive day, Mumbai recorded over 100 deaths due to the novel coronavirus. On Saturday, 136 people succumbed to the infection, which also the highest single-day toll in the city since the first death was registered on March 17. The total death toll in Mumbai now stands at 3,561. On Friday, too, the city had registered 114 deaths.

The number of total cases in Maharashtra is 1,28,205 while 5984 people have succumbed to the virus. Following Maharashtra is Tamil Nadu with 56,845 cases in the state.

The national capital is the third most affected state with 56,746 cases and 31,294 people have recovered from the disease. In a recent report, Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain underwent plasma therapy after being tested Covid positive on Wednesday. According to the doctors, the health minister is in a stable condition now.

Global Status

The total number of Covid-19 cases in the world has now surged to over 8.7 million, while the deaths are nearing 463,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University. By Sunday morning, the total number of cases stood at 8,768,285, while the fatalities increased to 463,999, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering revealed in its latest update. India stands at 4th position in the league of worst-affected nations.
