New Delhi: Ahead of the upcoming assembly election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday declared assets worth Rs 4,847.78 crores in the financial year 2019-20, which is the highest among all political parties in the country, according to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).


As per the report, titled ‘Analysis Of Assets & Liabilities of National & Regional Political Parties for FY 2019-20’, the total assets declared by the seven national and 44 regional parties during the financial year (FY) 2019-20 amounted to Rs 6,988.57 crore and Rs 2,129.38 crore, respectively.


The list was followed by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which declared its assets worth Rs 698.33 crore (9.99 percent), and the Indian National Congress (INC) declared assets worth Rs 588.16 crore (8.42 percent).


“Among the seven national parties, the highest assets for the FY 2019-20 were declared by BJP amounting to Rs 4,847.78 crore (69.37 percent) followed by BSP which declared assets worth Rs 698.33 crore (9.99 percent) and INC declared assets worth Rs 588.16 crore (8.42 percent),” the report added.


The total liabilities declared by the seven national and 44 regional political parties for the FY 2019-20 amount to Rs 134.93 crore. The liabilities announced by the political parties fall under two significant heads - borrowings (from banks, overdraft facilities, and sundry creditors) and different liabilities.


“Political parties declared Rs 34.55 crore (25.61 percent) under borrowings and Rs 100.38 crore (74.39 percent) under other liabilities.”


Further, the national political parties proclaimed the complete liabilities of Rs 74.27 crore in FY 2019-20 - Rs 4.26 crore under borrowings and Rs 70.01 crore under other liabilities.


The Congress declared the highest total liabilities of Rs 49.55 crore – accountable for 67 percent of the total, followed by AITC that declared Rs 11.32 crore —15.24 percent.


The report also stated that the assets of the top 10 parties worth Rs 2,028.715 crore — 95.27 percent of the total assets declared among all the 44 regional political parties for FY 2019-20.


The Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party declared its assets worth Rs 563.47 crore (26.46 percent), followed by TRS worth Rs 301.47 crore and AIADMK worth Rs 267.61 crore.


The total liabilities of the regional political parties stands at Rs 60.66 crore in FY 2019-20. They announced Rs 30.29 crore under borrowings and Rs 30.37 crore under other liabilities.


The top 10 regional political parties declared total liabilities of Rs 57.314 crore (94.48 percent) while the remaining 34 declared total liabilities worth Rs 3.346 crore in FY 2019-20.


“In the FY 2019-20, TDP declared the highest total liabilities of Rs 30.342 crore (50.02 percent) followed by DMK that declared Rs 8.05 crore (13.27 percent),” the report added.
