I.N.D.I.A. Bloc Mulling 'Main Nahin, Hum' Motto To Take On PM Modi
According to news agency PTI, a senior Congress leader said that the Opposition parties aim to project a united front with the theme "Main Nahin, Hum" (We, Not Me) as a counter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Against the backdrop of the Congress Party's recent electoral setbacks in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, the opposition parties are confronted with the challenge of forging an alternative positive agenda to counter the BJP in the forthcoming general elections, the leader told PTI.
During the meeting, discussions are expected to revolve around seat-sharing strategies, organising joint election rallies, and developing a common programme. Despite electoral defeats, the opposition emphasises that the issues raised during the recent poll campaign, such as caste census and the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme, have not been rejected, PTI reported. The party acknowledges the need for innovative approaches to confront the BJP in 2024.
The potential slogan, "Main Nahin, Hum" (We, not me), is anticipated to underscore the unity theme among opposition parties to counter Prime Minister Modi, as per PTI.
Sources told PTI that the bloc aims to focus on issues such as caste census, legal guarantees for Minimum Support Price (MSP), and social security for workers.
Addressing economic inequality, social polarisation, political authoritarianism, price rise, and inflation are deemed critical issues likely to resonate during the Lok Sabha polls. The bloc plans to highlight the comparison between the tenures of Manmohan Singh and PM Modi, evaluating their impact on the common man's life, PTI's report mentioned. The Adani issue is also slated to feature prominently in the Lok Sabha poll campaign.
West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee, who will be in the national capital from December 17 to 19, is likely to take part in the meet while efforts are underway to ensure the presence of other senior leaders, the report stated sources as informing.
The upcoming meeting is a crucial step for the opposition alliance as it readies itself to challenge the BJP juggernaut in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
