The Congress party on Thursday trained guns on Narendra Modi over his speech on the occasion of the 78th Independence Day saying he should speak like a Prime Minister and not like an ordinary politician of a Bharatiya Janata Party. During his speech from the ramparts of Red Fort, PM Modi touched upon many topics including civil code, situation in Bangladesh, atrocities on women etc.
Modi said that the existing civil code in the country is communal and that India needs a secular civil code. He also remarked that the terms of the previous governments were marred with terrorism.
Launching an attack on Modi, Congress leader Pawan Khera said that the PM takes oath on the Constitution but calls the code written by Bhimrao Ambedkar as communal.
"... He takes oath on the constitution and then calls the code written by Babasaheb Ambedkar as communal. He speaks against Atal Bihar Vajpayee in a way saying there were terrorist attacks during previous government terms... ," Khera said.
While Modi also called upon the new interim government in Bangladesh for the safety of Hindus and minorities amidst the unrest in the country, Khera asked what steps has the PM taken to ensure the safety and security of Bangladeshi Hindus.
"We want to know, what steps has the Prime Minister taken to ensure the safety and security of Bangladeshi Hindus...," Khera said.
"He calls himself a custodian of Hindu rights, makes tall claims that we will bring CAA so we want to know what has happened now," he added.
