New Delhi: The Bahujan Samajwadi Party supremo Mayawati on Monday criticised demonetisation step taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"In the name of demonetisation, the common people are being made to suffer", Mayawati said during a press conference in Lucknow.

Taking a dig at PM Modi's latest move, she said-"Modi ji makes claims of fighting against corruption, but today BJP got its volunteers in trains without tickets for Ghazipur rally."

The PM should have made adequate preparations before scrapping Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, said BSP Supremo.

Mayawati also dismissed as hollow PM's claims on ending black money, said his move is "anti-farmer".

Mayawati converted BSP into shop: BJP

Hitting back at the ex-UP CM, BJP's Srikant Sharma said-"Mayawati Dalit ki beti nahi, daulat ki beti hain. Unhone BSP ko dukaan mein badal diya, paise do ticket lo". (Mayawati is not the daughter of dalit but, well off. She has converted BSP into a shop. Give money, take ticket)

Ghazipur: Poor's hard earned money safe, but will not spare the corrupt, says Modi

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi  justified demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency. He said as a result of the notes ban, the poor were sleeping in ease and those who have stashed ill-gotten money are running from pillar to post, buying sleeping pills.

During a rally in Ghazipur, PM said had Uttar Pradesh not given such a huge mandate to the BJP, there could not have been a government at the Centre which "works with steely determination" for the people of the country.
