Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday that several parts of the country are set to receive moderate to heavy rainfall in the coming days.


Amid floods and landslides in parts of India, the IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in several states, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu.


Flash floods triggered by cloudbursts in Kullu's Nirmand, Sainj, and Malana, Mandi's Padhar, and Shimla's Rampur in Himachal Pradesh around July 31 midnight have claimed 22 lives so far, news agency PTI reported.


Cloudbursts also wreaked havoc in Uttarakhand. In Kerala, as many as 138 people are missing following the massive landslides that hit this north Kerala district more than a week ago, according to the initial figures released by the local administration on Wednesday. 


In Delhi, the weather office has said that light rain is likely to continue till August 15, and the sky is set to remain cloudy throughout the week. According to the latest bulletin, relative humidity in the national capital was recorded at 85% on Friday.


Northwest India Weather Forecast


The IMD has said that fairly widespread moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and East Rajasthan. 


Widespread showers are also predicted during the week over Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and West Rajasthan.


West And Central India


In its latest weather bulletin, the IMD has said that Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Konkan, and Goa, Gujarat region, are set to receive fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning during the week; 


The weather office also stated that heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, and Goa on August 9, and East Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, will likely witness downpours today and tomorrow.


East And Northeast India


Several parts of East and Northeast India will also see moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in the coming days. The Met said that very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh on August 9 and in Bihar on August 10.


Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim today and tomorrow. In Jharkhand, showers are likely till August 12. As far as Assam and Meghalaya are concerned, downpours are likely till August 13.


In Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, rainfall is likely to continue till August 15, and in West Bengal and Odisha, showers are predicted till August 13.


South Peninsular India Rain Prediction


According to the IMD, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala. Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on August 11 and 12.
