The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Tamil Nadu predicting heavy rainfall across the state until October 13. The regional weather office in Chennai has also forecast isolated thunderstorms and lightning in various parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal during this period.


Heavy rainfall was also reported in Puducherry.


The IMD Chennai stated, "Southwest Monsoon has been active, with rainfall recorded in many places across Tamil Nadu, especially in interior areas and parts of coastal Tamil Nadu. Very light rain was reported in Puducherry, while dry weather prevailed over Karaikal."


The IMD further indicated that light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely to affect several parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Districts expected to receive heavy rain in isolated areas include Salem, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tirupattur, Namakkal, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, and Dindigul, as per IMD.

For Chennai, the IMD has predicted partly cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in some areas. The maximum temperature is expected to range between 33°C and 34°C, while the minimum temperature will likely hover around 26°C to 27°C.


Meanwhile, heavy rains that began on October 9 have caused severe waterlogging in several low-lying areas of Hubballi. Major roads have turned into flooded stretches, with some trees uprooted due to the intensity of the rainfall. 


The weather department has also issued yellow alerts for 8 districts in Kerala due to the isolated heavy rainfall prediction on Thursday.
