Heatwave In India: There seems no respite in site from heat as several parts of the country will continue to sizzle as heatwave conditions will continue to prevail in the Eastern region of India till May 5 and over south Peninsular India till May 6. However, the India Meteorological Department has predicted that the heatwave conditions will abate after May 6 in these regions.
On heatwave conditions and weather forecast in India, senior IMD scientist Dr Naresh Kumar said: "For the next three days, heatwave conditions will continue to prevail in the eastern region of the country. Heatwave conditions will continue in Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar."
"After three days, heatwave conditions will abate due to thunderstorm activity," IMD scientist said.
Kumar also said that similar heatwave conditions will likely continue in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and interior Karnataka for the next four days.
Meanwhile, IMD has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to occur in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura after two days."
According to IMD, heatwave to severe heat wave conditions prevailed in many parts of Gangetic West Bengal and in some parts of Tamil Nadu. Additionally, heat wave conditions also prevailed in isolated pockets of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema, on May 2.
Odisha continued to be under the grip of a severe heatwave on Thursday, as the mercury shoot past the 44 degrees Celsius mark at several places, the Met Department said.
The highest temperature was recorded in Bolangir at 45 degrees Celsius, followed by Angul town at 44.7 deg C, Nuapada (44.6 deg C), Talcher (44.5 deg C), Boudh (44.3 deg C), Baripada (43.4 deg C) and Bhawanipatna (43 deg C).
The maximum temperature was recorded at Nandyal in Rayalaseema at 46.2 degrees Celsius.
The weather department has also predicted a further increase in temperature in Uttarakhand in the upcoming days. In view of this the weather department has predicted that there will be an increase in temperature and heat in the state in the next four days, starting May 8.
IMD Predicts Rainfall In Several States
IMD has predicted isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in Assam and Meghalaya (115.5- 204.4 mm) on May 5 and 6.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied with gusty winds and thuderstorms are very likely to occur over Northeast India on May 5 and 6, IMD said.
Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura is likely to receive isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on May 5 and 6.
