New Delhi: The Indian Medical Association on Saturday released a public statement expressing displeasure at Yoga guru and entrepreneur Baba Ramdev over his comments about modern allopathy and its medicines.

The association has demanded that the "Union Health Minister either accept accusation and dissolve modern medical facility or prosecute him and book him under Epidemic Diseases Act."

The IMA in its latest public statement has presented a sharp criticism against Baba Ramdev for his comments over allopathy medicines.

"In this war-like setting, it has become a passion for people with malicious opportunistic attitude to hit from the back and the medical warriors with their selfish malevolent to boost up their unscrupulous, unprincipled, deceitful, and unpatriotic business fortunes. They pretend to throw mud on modern allopathic medicine but time and again benefited through back door in modern medicine hospitals when they get the disease," IMA wrote.

IMA sought to bring to the attention of Union health minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, a video circulating on social media "portraying the celebrated yoga guruji addressing allopathy as 'Ek aisi stupid aur Diwaliya science hai' (a stupid and hollow science)".

"In the past too, he has uttered modern medical doctors as murders in the presence of honorable health minister himself on the pretext of the release of his wonder drugs. However, it is well-known fact that said the said yoga guruji and his associate Sri Balakrishna Ji have been taking modern medical allopathy treatment as and when they get into illness. Now to mislead the public at large he is making all false and baseless accusations so that he can sell his illegal and an approved drugs," the medical association alleged.

IMA wrote that in the video circulating, Ramdev claimed Remdesivir, Fabiflu, and other approved drugs by DCGI as having failed and stated "lakhon ki maut allopathic ki dawai khane se hui hai (lakhs have died because of having allopathic medicines), challenging the wisdom and integrity of the DCGI and the head of all this is our honorable health minister".

Putting up several scathing remarks, it wrote that Ramdev deserves to be prosecuted under section 3 of the Epidemic disease act and under section 188 of IPC for disturbing and causing danger to the life of many by making them "believe and make them not take the advice of allopathic drugs. His quote about Favipiravir as medicine against fever/antipyretic is laughable childish and demonstrates his in-depth scientific knowledge".

The IMA brought up the controversy around Coronil and questioned if his comments on allopathic treatment are not "unpatriotic" and amounting to "contempt of court".

"Enough is enough," the association wrote, bringing up "the pain and agony of loss of 1200 modern medical doctors amidst limited infrastructure and manpower".

The head of this ministry should either accept the challenge and accusations of these gentlemen and dissolve the modern medical facility or boldly face and prosecute the person for his words of arson on the sovereignty of the country and book him under the epidemic act to save millions of life millions of people from search and scientific utterances, it added.

IMA has resolved that if the Union health minister does not take Suo Moto action in this case, then it will be forced to resort to knocking the doors of the judiciary to "get due justice".

Treating unscientific illiteracy with deaf ears and blind eyes is hardly professionalism, the association wrote concluding its statement.

Now whether or not an action against Baba Ramdev is initiated - remains to be seen.
