New Delhi: The CBI is likely to examine former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav in connection with a case of illegal sand mining, officials said Saturday. They said Yadav was holding additional charge of the mining department between 2012 and June 2013. Another former minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, who held the portfolio of the mining department, is also likely to be summoned by the CBI in the case.



Earlier, the CBI carried out searches at 12 locations in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi in connection with illegal sand mining case.  The residences of senior officers, including IAS officer B Chandrakala, who is famous on social media for her anti-corruption crusade, were also raided in connection with the case.

The searches were spread across multiple districts including Jalaun, Hamirpur, Lucknow and also in the national capital. The agency had taken up the case on the instructions of Allahabad High Court.
