LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said on Thursday that if an "alliance" with the Congress takes shape in the state before the assembly elections, the opposition parties will face a humiliating defeat.
"We are going to win the elections on our own, but if an alliance takes place, the opposition parties will face a humiliating defeat," Akhilesh told reporters outside Parliament.
However, he added that any decision regarding a possible alliance will be taken only by "Netaji" -- Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Akhilesh was asked whether the Samajwadi Party will go for an alliance with the Congress, as its strategist Prashant Kishor has been trying to work out.
He was at Parliament House to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Chief Minister said that he has handed over a letter to the Prime Minister and urged him to take measures to address the concerns of farmers affected by demonetisation.
He also said that concerns relating to marriages and health should also be addressed.
