Ahead of the commencement of the Parliament's Monsoon session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday requested legislators to undertake meaningful discussions and make the session as useful and profitable as possible. "There should be dialogue in the Parliament with an open mind, if necessary, there should be a debate. I urge all MPs to contemplate deeply & discuss," he said, news agency ANI reported. 


Speaking to the reporters, PM Modi stated that Parliament runs and makes the greatest decisions with everyone's 'prayaas' (efforts), and he urged lawmakers to make the most of this session.






"This period is very important. It is the period of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. There is a special significance of 15th Aug & coming 25 yrs - when nation would celebrate 100 yrs of independence, would be the time to make a resolution to decide our journey&the new heights we scale," he said. 


Speaking about policy making, PM Modi said, "There should be Opposition, close analysis for constructive contribution to policy making," news agency PTI reported. 


PM Modi said that this Session is extremely significant since elections for President and Vice President are being held.


Highlighting the Presidential elections, PM Modi said, "This Session is also important because elections for the office of President & Vice President are taking place right now. Voting (for the Presidential election) is taking place today. During this period, the new President and Vice President will begin guiding the nation."


The prime minister stated that there should be free discourse in Parliament.


Parliament's Monsoon Session


The Monsoon Session of Parliament begins on Monday and will last on August 12, depending on the needs of the administration.


This year's Monsoon Session is particularly important as polls for electing both President and Vice-President are slated to take place in this session.


While the Presidential polls will be held today, the Vice Presidential polls will take place on August 6.
