On the final day of 2023, Rahul Gandhi's YouTube account posted a video of the Congress leader making marmalade from scratch with his mother Sonia Gandhi, using Priyanka Gandhi's recipe. "If BJP people want the jam, they can get it too," Rahul Gandhi replied, stirring the oranges on the gas burner. "They will throw it at us," Sonia Gandhi said, eliciting a loud chuckle from Rahul.

Sonia Gandhi expressed her frustration at Rahul's persistence while they waited for the oranges to boil. Rahul Gandhi's loving nature is one of her favourite qualities, she stated.

"It's my sister's recipe, not mine, She found the recipe and improved it. I am just implementing it," Rahul Gandhi said.

The mother-son team began by going to the garden to pick little oranges, wash them, and juice them.

"If BJP people want to get the jam, they can get it too. What do you say, mummy?" Rahul Gandhi said. "They will throw it at us," Sonia Gandhi replied. "That's good, then we can pick it up again," Rahul Gandhi said laughing.

Sonia Gandhi's mother was the finest chef in the family, according to Rahul Gandhi, who learned several dishes from the Gandhis' Kashmiri cousins.

"When an Indian travels abroad...not today because there are Indian restaurants everywhere...you cannot adjust to the foods in the UK or elsewhere." "It took me time to adjust when I first came here," Sonia Gandhi stated.

Sonia stated that it took her some time to acclimatise to Indian flavours, particularly the chiles and green coriander. "She didn't like achaar before, but she likes it now," Rahul Gandhi added. Sonia Gandhi revealed how she acclimated to and subsequently fell in love with Indian food, saying that the first thing she wants to eat when she returns from abroad is arhar (toor) daal and rice.

They put the marmalade in jars with a simple handwritten letter on brown paper that said, "With love, from Sonia and Rahul."
