Police said that the tragedy was averted by a road opening party of the police and Army’s 32 RR in the Chatloor area on Baramulla-Handwara road early in the morning. The IED was planted inside a small bag, weighing around 10KG and was kept inside an empty bus shed, which is frequently used by jawans as well as locals during the day.

Police say that had the IED not been detected, it could have caused a major catastrophe for both the locals and the jawans manning the road in the area and also to the army convoys passing through the area.

This is the 4th IED which has been defused in North Kashmir during the last two months, where militants have started this tactic to target the forces. According to the intelligence sources, militants are now facing a crunch of both men and arms, and are therefore using the IEDs to target the forces.

However, alert troops have foiled these attempts yet again.
