New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said he'll get married when the right girl comes along, in an interview shared by the party's leaders on social media. He also stated in the interview that his parents' "really lovely marriage" has set the bar very high.
In a free-wheeling, light-hearted chat on the food and travel platform Curly Tales on YouTube, Gandhi discussed a range of personal issues, including his growing up years, his food preferences and his exercise regimen.
"Are you planning to get married any time soon? No marriage on the cards?" the interviewer asked.
Listed among India's most eligible bachelors, Gandhi said that he has nothing against marriage. "When the right girl comes along. I will get married. I mean if she comes along, she comes along. It will be good."
Nitin Agarwal, National Coordinator at Indian National Congress, sharing the video clip on Twitter, wrote, "Rahul Gandhi ji's Chit-chat on marriage with Kamiya Jani of curly tales."
Asked if he has a checklist for the kind of person he wants to get married to, Gandhi said, "No, just a loving person who is intelligent."
The 52-year-old former Congress president said, "Part of the problem is my parents had a really lovely marriage and they were completely in love with each other so my bar is very high," referring to his parents Rajiv and Sonia Gandhi.
The Congress leader is in Jammu after his march through 12 states in 129 days. The Bharat Jodo Yatra, which started from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on September 7 and is scheduled to culminate in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir's summer capital, on January 30 with Gandhi hoisting the national flag at his party headquarters at a mega rally.
