Speaking on his resignation from the membership of the State Assembly, he said, “I will make the decision according to the law. Anyone can file an application but the decision will be taken by the authority. The decision of my resignation will be the party’s.”

Suvendu Adhikari, leader of opposition from the BJP had filed a petition on Friday to the speaker of the West Bengal State Assembly seeking the disqualification of Mukul Roy as a legislator. Roy had won the elections on BJP’s ticket from Krishnanagar Uttar Assembly Constituency. However, soon after the elections, he made a re-entry to his former party, the TMC. Suvendu had previously also demanded his resignation threatening him with a violation of the Anti-defection law.

Swapan Dasgupta, BJP legislator had also made claims seeking his resignation.

When asked about his opinion on the recounting of votes for the Nandigram Constituency, he further mentioned that it is going to be the party’s decision and the final call will be taken by the Judiciary itself.

At a time when West Bengal politics is undergoing heightened tension in regards to TMC turned BJP leaders switching back to the Trinamool Congress, BJP’s former National Vice President, Mukul Roy along with his son Subhrangshu Roy rejoined the Trinamool Congress on 11 June, 2021.

His rejoining in front of TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee had created an upheaval in Bengal State politics as it gave rise to speculations of several other leaders switching back to the TMC after its landslide victory in the 2021 State elections.

On the day Roy rejoined the party, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had commented, “I think Mukul has got his mental peace back having come back. He was tortured a lot.”
