"I only wish to continue working (in films) and take up challenging roles in future as well", said Mr Bachchan to media on his 74th birthday.
"Shatrughan babu mazaak karte hain, unka bachpana hai. Aisa hoga nahin", (Shatrughan does jokes, it's his childish nature. It will not happen) said senior Bachchan on Shatrughan Sinha's comment pitching Bachchan's name as President of the country.
Amitabh Bachchan's political career
In the 1980s, Amitabh Bachchan had a stint in politics. He, in 1984, took a break from acting and entered politics, for a very brief time, in support of long-time family friend, late Rajiv Gandhi.
Against H. N. Bahuguna, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, veteran actor contested Allahabad's seat of 8th Lok Sabha. As expected, he won by one of the highest victory margins in general election history, 68.2% of the vote to be specific.
However, his political career, was short-lived as he resigned after three years terming politics a "cesspool".
Interestingly, his resignation followed the implication of Bachchan and his brother in the "Bofors scandal" but Mr Bachchan was eventually found not guilty of involvement in the deal.
