NEW DELHI: Reserve Bank of Inida Governor Raghuram Rajan, who has decided against a second term amid a spate of attacks including some of personal nature, today said he never used public platform to critise the government.
In an exclusive interview to ABP News, Rajan said that some of his speeches were misinterpreted and taken out of context and he never criricised the government publicly.
"I was never critical of the government in any instance. Whenever there were disagreements I discussed privately with the finance ministry. I never used public platforms to criticise the government " Rajan said.
The academic-turned-central banker strongly defended his controversial public statements and said that his speeches were perfectly fine if interpreted properly.
"First of all people do not read the pretext and context of my speeches properly. This is what lead to misunderstanding. These are perfectly legitimate speeches, if you read properly. The problem is being the RBI governor you get closely scrutinize by people. Not only this but they try to impose their opinions on you," Rajan said.
