The Hyderabad police on Saturday took suo-moto cognisance of the clash between two groups in Hyderabad’s old city Charminar area and filed a case against Shri Ram Navmi group for changing the yatra route permitted by the city administration. On March 30, the Ram Navami group without informing the police changed the procession route which resulted in sloganeering and clashes between the two groups, said the police, as reported by news agency ANI.
"The Shri Ram Navmi group on March 30 changed the route and marched on the other route due to which disturbance was created and a clash took place. Police immediately reached the spot and evicted both groups from the area. We have filed a case against the group for not following the permitted route, said Rudra Bhaskar, ACP, Charminar.
The police has not received any complaint regarding the incident so far, but a case has been file taking suo-moto cognisance of the clash.
"Police didn't receive any complaint, however, a case has been filed by taking suo-moto cognisance. The accused are yet to be identified," said Charminar Station House Officer, as reported by ANI.
Police is probing the case further.
Clashes were also reported in various other parts of the country during the Ram Navami 'Shobha Yatra' including in Mumbai and West Bengal's Howrah.
West Bengal BJP Lok Sabha MP Jagannath Sarkar has demanded that National Investigation Agency should investigate the root cause of violence in Howrah during Ram Navami celebrations.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Sarkar requested "the intervention of Central forces to prevent the spread of repression in Howrah, demands NIA investigate the root cause of riots."
On Wednesday, March 29, two groups clashed in Howrah amid Ram Navami celebrations. During the procession, the rioters vandalised public and private properties and set vehicles on fire.
