New Delhi: After Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan on Monday said that lynching was perhaps the only way to put an end to ghastly crimes against women, it has left the netizens divided in opinion. While some users on Twitter came out in her support, several others severely criticised her by saying that they don't see mob justice as a viable solution. #JayaBachchan trended garnering 1,143 tweets in a day.

She was speaking in the Rajya Sabha in the wake of the gang-rape and murder of a veterinarian on the outskirts of Hyderabad on November 27. Her burnt body was recovered the next day. The MP asserted that rapists should be brought out in public and lynched. She also added that people want the government to give a proper and definite answer.

A part of Jaya Bachchan's speech reads, "I don't know how many times I've stood and spoken after this kind of a crime. I think it is time... whether Nirbhaya or Kathua or what happened in Telangana." She then added, "These types of people (the rape accused) need to be brought out in public and lynched."
