New Delhi: A water tanker rammed into a Qatar Airways aircraft preparing for a take-off at Kolkata airport early Thursday, causing more than 100 passengers to be stranded at the airport.


The aircraft was preparing to take off for Doha at around 2:00 am, reports said.

In the wee hours of the day, the tanker hit the belly of the Doha-bound flight near the landing gear, when the passengers were boarding the plane.

Around 2:30 am, when passengers were boarding the plane, a water tanker hit the belly of the Doha-bound flight, near the landing gear, an official of Airports Authority of India (AAI) told PTI.

Total 103 passengers were present at the time of the accident.

Fortunately, all the passengers were de-boarded safely and nobody was hurt in the accident. All the passengers have also been provided accommodation at a nearby hotel. The passengers will now take 3 am Doha flight on Friday.

As per reports, the water tanker suffered technical failure as the brake was not functioning properly

A probe has been initiated in the matter.
