The Air India plane crash in Kerala's Kozhikode left people devastated. According to reports, 17 people including 2 pilots lost their lives and many are severely injured. The plane was Boeing 737 NG or Next Generation which overshot the runway attempting to land at Kerala's 'tabletop' Kozhikode airport, breaking in two and coming to rest in a nearby valley.
After NDRF reached the accident site and rescued people to hospitals the locals came forward to help the survivors. Locals were seen standing in long queues to donate blood and help the injured recover. Such scenes reinstalled people's faith in humanity.

The locals took the injured people to hospitals even before ambulances reached the area. The locals were not deterred by the possibility of the flight exploding at any time. This helped in saving lots of lives.

Close to Friday midnight, heartwarming pictures and videos of people queuing up outside blood banks in various hospitals in Kozhikode, despite heavy rains and the Covid-19 threat, started showing up on social media.

Around 10 pm, blood donors began to arrive at hospitals, one after the other and this inflow of donors continued till about 2 am on Saturday. A lot of people reached from Malappuram to donate blood but had to return as the blood banks were already filled.
