A 17-year-old IIT-JEE applicant allegedly died by suicide hours after his father departed after seeing him, according to a distressing event reported from Kota. On his way back home, the father learned of his son's death. Manish Prajapat's body was discovered hanging from the ceiling fan of his room in Kota's Mahaveer Nagar on Thursday evening, barely hours after his father had left him, news agency PTI reported.
According to authorities, Prajapat's death was the third case of suspected suicide in the previous two weeks and the twentieth case of suspected suicide in Kota, which is a coaching centre for IIT-JEE and NEET hopefuls.
Prajapat, a native of Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, travelled to Kota last year to study for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) at a coaching institution.
His father came to visit him last week and even remained with him for five days before leaving on Thursday; unfortunately, only hours after meeting his son, his father learned of his death.
An official at the Jawahar Nagar police station told PTI that the youngster took the drastic step barely a few hours after his father departed.
The adolescent reportedly ate supper at the hostel mess and returned to his room about 7 p.m. Later, the youngster stopped answering to his father's call, which concerned him.
His father, who was on his way to Azamgarh, immediately requested the hostel's keeper to check on his son. When the caretaker peered through the window, he discovered Prajapat hanging from the fan with the help of a bed sheet.
The police raced to the scene, collected the corpse, and deposited it in the mortuary.
While the motive for Manish's severe action is unknown, DSP Ghanshyam Meena stated that he was apparently under a lot of strain due to academics because he was consistently doing low. “Prajapat was scoring poorly in the routine tests by his coaching institute and was also irregular in classes," Meena stated.
