Himachal Pradesh Elections 2022: The Bharatiya Janata Party is expected to receive tough competition from the Congress. Most of the exit polls predicted that BJP will retain power in Himachal Pradesh. Early trends show close battle between BJP and Congress. As the counting of votes begin, BJP is leading on 9 seats in early trends and Congress is leading at 8 seats. 


The counting of votes began at 8 AM. Polling for 68 assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh was held on November 12, with the state recording a 75.6 per cent turnout, breaking the 2017 record. There are 68 counting halls in 59 locations across the state. In the 2017 Himachal Pradesh elections, BJP won 44 out of 68 seats and formed the government in the state. Congress won 21 seats. two seats went to Independent candidates and CPI (M) won one seat 


Poll of Exit Polls


Most of the exit polls on Monday predicted that BJP will retain power in Himachal Pradesh, one exit poll predicted that Congress will form the government in the hill state. The state has seen power rotating between BJP and Congress for several decades in the past.


The BJP appears to be losing some ground and the Congress is also showcasing a marginal loss in vote share percentage as per the ABP News-CVoter Exit Poll Results 2022. AAP is gaining some of the vote shares while the Independents are able to get double digits vote share percentage, the ABP-CVoter Exit Poll 2022 suggests.

BJP will likely get 44.9% of the total vote share, which is 3.9% lower than the 2017 Himachal Pradesh assembly election figure. Congress is down by 0.6% and remains at 41.1% while AAP is projected to get 2.1% of the vote share in the Himachal assembly. Independents are pegged to get an 11.9% vote share as per ABP-CVoter Exit Poll.



  • Most exit polls have predicted that BJP, the ruling party in Himachal Pradesh, will retain power but receive a tough fight from Congress. 
    According to an exit poll by Aaj Tak, AAP may get 149-171 wards. Another exit poll by Times Now shows Arvind Kejriwal's party getting anywhere between 146 and 156 wards.

  • Aaj Tak shows BJP getting 69-91 wards while the Times Now exit poll has given BJP anywhere between 84-94 wards.
    Both exit polls have shown the Congress getting 10 or less wards.

  • The exit poll results came out after the conclusion of the second phase of polling in Gujarat on Monday. The first phase of polling in Gujarat was held on December 1 and results for the two states will be declared on December 8.

  • In Himachal Pradesh, which went to the polls on November 12, the Republic-PMARQ exit poll gave 34-49 seats to BJP with a vote share of 44.8 percent.

  • It predicted that Congress will get 28-33 seats with a vote share of 42.9 percent. AAP is expected to get 0-1 seat in the state with 2.8 percent vote share, the exit poll said.

  • India Today-Axis poll predicted that Congress is ahead and would have 30-40 seats in the hill state, BJP 24-34 and AAP four to eight seats.

  • The poll predicted a 44 percent vote share for Congress, 42 pc for BJP, two percent for AAP, and 12 percent for others.

  • India TV-Matrize poll gave 35-40 seats to BJP and 26-31 to Congress. The poll predicted that AAP would not be able to open its account while others will get 0-3 seats.

  • The NewsX-Jan ki Baat poll predicted 32-40 polls for BJP, 27-34 for Congress, none for AAP and 1-2 for others.
    The Times Now-ETG poll predicted 34-42 seats for BJP, 24-32 for Congress, none for AAP, and others getting 1-3 seats.

  • The Zee News-BARC poll predicted 35-40 seats for BJP, 20-25 for Congress, 0-3 for AAP, and 1-5 for others in the hill state.
