New Delhi: The demand for fuel started recovering after the Central government allowed movement of cars, buses, and autos in Unlock 1. Post these relaxations the price of Brent Crude Oil recovered and is trading above $40.

Petrol and diesel prices were last revised on March 16 and but some state governments raised value-added tax (VAT) or cess to increase revenues during the COVID crisis.

The Centre levies specific excise duty on the two fuels. On March 14, it raised additional Rs 3 per litre from petrol and diesel each to fund its Covid-19 relief measures raising total central levies on petrol are to Rs 22.98 per litre on petrol and Rs 18.83 per litre.

Despite hikes in the central levies, pump prices of petrol and diesel were not raised due to a sharp decline in international oil prices.

Fuel prices are generally reviewed on a daily basis but rates, since March 16 state-run oil companies stopped the revision to combat their loss. The fuel prices are dependent on crude oil rates as India imports around 80% of its fuel requirements.

Hyderabad: Petrol Rs 74.61 and diesel Rs 68.42

Bengaluru: Petrol Rs 74.18 and diesel Rs 66.54
