New Delhi: Hours after a mob of around 200 people allegedly vandalised the ISKCON Radhakanta temple in Bangladesh's capital city Dhaka, the Indian High Commission said that it is in constant touch with Bangladeshi authorities and at least three temple members were injured in the attack.
"The High Commission of India is in touch with Bangladeshi authorities. As per reports, an ISKCON-affiliated Radhakanta Jeev temple in the Wari area of Dhaka, Bangladesh was attacked on March 17. Around 150-200 people were involved in the violence at the ISKCON temple," news agency ANI reported citing sources.
According to reports, some damages were also caused to the property. The temple is situated at 222, Lal Mohan Saha Street in Wari, Dhaka.
It is being alleged that around 200 people forcibly stormed the ISKON Radhakanta temple located in Dhaka Bangladesh at around 7 pm on Thursday and started vandalising it. The mob is also rumoured to have looted the temple.
The cause of the incident, according to the Bangladeshi authorities, is a longstanding dispute over the land on which the ISKCON temple exists.
Condemning the latest incident, ISKCON Kolkata vice-president Radharamn Das said these attacks were of grave concern.
"Last evening, when devotees were preparing for Gaura Purnima celebration, a mob of 200 people entered the premises of Shri Radhakanta Temple, Dhaka, and attacked them... three of them were injured in scuffle. Fortunately, they called the police and were able to drive away miscreants," he was quoted by ANI.
The recent violence comes a few months after attacks on religious places in the country.
Even last year in October, an ISKCON temple in Noakhali was vandalised and the violence even caused life of one person. Three more were killed over allegations of a Quran desecrated at a Durga Puja pavilion in Bangladesh.
