NEW DELHI: On social media site Twitter, the hashtag #JackSparrowIsKrishna is trending where people are posting photographs of Johnny Depp who was in the lead role of 2003 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl'.

The main reason behind the hashtag is due to an information shared by Ted Elliott, one of the screenwriters for Jack Sparrow's character.

TOI reported that post the success, the makers the trilogy of the series with Dead Man's Chest, At World's End and On Stranger Tides announced that Jack Sparrow’s character was inspired by the shades of Lord Krishna.

Time of India reported Ted Elliott commenting that "Jack Sparrow's character in 'Pirates of the Caribbean' is one of the most integral part of the film. The characterization of Sparrow is based on Lord Krishna who is a major deity in Hinduism. While writing the character sketch of Jack Sparrow, we referred to the description of Lord Krishna, various shades of the Almighty, which helped us a lot in making the whole character of Jack Sparrow into existence".
