New Delhi: Heavy rains lashed several parts of the Kashmir Valley on Friday. The water level was sharply increasing since yesterday morning which has created a flood-like situation in many parts of Kashmir. In view of the incessant rains, inclement weather and as a precautionary measure, all schools in Kashmir division to remain closed on Saturday, said Syed Abid Shah, Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar.


The rainfall has led to an increase in the water level in streams and rivers across the Valley, especially in south Kashmir. A flood alert was issued in South Kashmir yesterday after the water level of the Jhelum river crossed the danger mark following incessant rainfall.

The Irrigation and Flood Control Department has asked people residing near streams in south Kashmir to remain vigilant. It is expected that the weather will be better till noon today.



Rain halts Amarnath Yatra

After continuous rains for the past 36 hours, the Amarnath Yatra was stalled for the second consecutive day on Friday due to bad weather. The rain has also triggered landslides in the pilgrimage route, forcing authorities to halt the pilgrimage until the weather improves.


Besides, Jammu and Kashmir water have intruded in other places like Anantnag, Rajouri, Kulgam where people are facing huge problems. While in Anantnag district the flood water has started entering the people's homes.

Rains lash Himachal Pradesh

Hitting the normal life in Himachal Pradesh, heavy rain lashed several areas as monsoon remained active in mid and lower hills of the State. The rains triggered landslides in the interior areas of Kullu, Mandi, Kangra and Shimla districts disrupting traffic in interior areas. As per the report the local MeT office has warned of heavy rain in lower and mid hills in next 48 hours and predicted wet spell in the region for the next six days up to August 4.

Rain alert in Delhi

While rains lashed parts of the national capital on Friday evening, causing the humidity level to shoot up to 90 percent even as the mercury settled at a notch below normal, as per the report. Monsoon arrived in the national capital on Thursday and the weatherman had forecast rains and thundershowers in few areas. The Meteorological Department has issued heavy rain warning in 19 states, including Delhi and North India for the next two days.

Heavy rain predicted in Gujarat and Maharashtra

Meanwhile the Indian Meteorological Department, Mumbai has issued warnings of cyclonic circulations over the northeast Arabian Sea off north Gujarat coast at upper levels and the east-central Arabian Sea off south Maharashtra coast in a higher level.


Mumbai experienced heavy rainfall earlier this month, causing severe water-logging and disruption of local train services.


Heavy rainfall in Rajasthan

Rajasthan is experiencing heavy rainfall from last two days. The Met department had predicted heavy rainfall to occur at isolated places in the state. Rain water in Bikaner, Rajasthan has started entering people's homes and has covered the roads. Meanwhile, a house even collapsed in the rain where the mother-daughter died after being buried in the rubble.

Rain alerts in other areas

As per the report, the weatherman has predicted heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in Konkan and Goa as well. Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places in Andaman Islands, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, parts of West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka.
