New Delhi: Severe heat wave condition in Delhi continued on Sunday pushing the mercury to cross the 49 degree Celsius mark at some places. As per the official bulletin by the India Meteorological Department as on 6:30 pm on Sunday, Mungeshpur recorded a maximum temperature of 49.2 Degree Celsius while Najafgarh logged 49.1 degree Celsius temperature.
The mercury soared significantly in other parts of the city as well with Sports Complex recording a temperature of 48.4 degree Celsius, Jafarpur 47.5 degree Celsius, Pitampura 47.3 degree Celsius and Ridge 47.2 degree Celsius.
At Delhi’s base station, the Safdarjung observatory, the maximum temperature soared five notches above normal at 45.6 degree Celsius, the highest this year so far.
A heatwave day was recorded across all the stations in the national capital.
Neighbouring Gurugram too experienced torment heat with temperature recorded at 48.1 degree Celsius, highest since May 10 1996 when the mercury had settled at 49 degrees Celsius.
The MeT department had predicted a thunderstorm and dust storm on Monday in the national capital.
With scanty rains owing to feeble Western Disturbances, Delhi had recorded its second hottest April this year since 1951 with a monthly average maximum temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius.
