Heatwave Continues In Northwest India, Bikaner Reaches 44 Degrees On Sunday

As per IMD, the heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over northwestern India at least until April 20. 

New Delhi: The heatwave in Northern India does not seem to be providing any relief in the coming days as the maximum temperature in Delhi reached 41 degrees Celsius on Sunday. And according to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature is likely to rise over the next few days.

Meanwhile, the Met department has also issued a yellow alert for Delhi and other North Indian states which are facing Heatwave conditions these days. 

Northwestern India currently prevails a temperature of 42-43 degrees Celsius. IMD stated that the maximum temperatures were “42-44°C in most parts over West Rajasthan, Vidarbha; in some parts over Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh; in isolated pockets over Gujarat state, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, interior Odisha, and 40-42°C in many parts of East Rajasthan, Bihar, Marathawada, and in isolated pockets over Haryana and Delhi.”

Rajasthan’s  Bikaner was recorded as the hottest place in the state recording a maximum temperature of 44.2 degrees Celsius, the Met department said.

Barmer and Churu sizzled at 43.9 degrees Celsius while Pilani, Kota, and Jaisalmer recorded day temperatures of 43.7, 43.6, and 43.5 degrees Celsius, respectively, it said.

The day temperatures in Alwar and Sriganganagar were 42.6 degrees Celsius, according to the Met department.

The temperatures in the Jammu Division, Punjab, West Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand; in some parts over East Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, and in isolated pockets over Haryana-Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, and Saurashtra-Kutch were recorded to be 3-5 degrees Celsius above the normal temperature. 

As per IMD, the heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over northwestern India at least until April 20.
