New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a policeman was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in Jaitpur area of Delhi. The incident took place on Tuesday night around 11 pm. The deceased police official was identified as head constable Ram Avtar. Avatar was posted in Ambedkar Nagar police station of South Delhi.

He returned to his home at around 8 pm after his duty last night but had to go out for some work later. While on his way back to home again, the policeman was attacked by the shooters. He was taken to Apollo Hospital soon after the incident where doctors declared him dead.

The police are meanwhile investigating the matter. Due to the absence of any CCTV camera in the area, it is challenging for the police to catch unknown miscreants. Ram Avatar was admitted to the Delhi Police in the year 2003.

There have been multiple incidents in the past where the policemen have been shot by unidentified people. In the recent case, a police constable in Agra was shot dead allegedly by armed men in the city on July 29. The incident took place when Satish Yadav, attached to the Etmauddaula police station, was on a patrol duty in Tedhi Bagia area and chased the armed men along with his colleague Kuldeep Yadav, they said.

Kuldeep claimed the four armed men were fleeing on two motorcycles on the Sau Phuta road. When the constables heard the cries of some people, they chased the four men and managed to catch hold of two of them, police said. The other two who had managed to escape returned and allegedly opened fire on Satish, killing him on the spot.
